Harvest Folk is a modern fibre studio focused on using upcycled and locally sourced natural materials from Nova Scotia to craft original works of fibre art. It also advocates for the importance of natural fibres (wool, linen, silk, hemp, etc.) and the benefit they have on the environment plus the storytelling they weave into each crafted piece. Fibre connects nature, people, place, and time.
Harvest Folk also happens to be a side project that I myself run! It can be true that designing for yourself isn't a picnic but to avoid endless rounds of revisions given to myself by myself, I instead focused on what the core principle of Harvest Folk is—a celebration of what makes the fibre community special.
The harvest is a fundamental time of year wherever you are in the world. It’s a time to gather, share, and take stock of what’s around you. Food, supplies, and fibre have always played roles during this period. Harvest Folk is a celebration of that unique season.
The fibre community is a harvest of collaboration and skill sharing who together are shaping the future of this creative industry.
A small sampling of a few recent pieces made in the studio.
